April 20th 2008 Atlantic Grand Prix

In Little Egg Harbor New Jersey

A great day to race for all those in attendance and again a big thanks for helping us raise over $7,000 for both the Parkertown Fire Company and the Great Bay Rescue squad.

Round 1 of the 2008 Atlantic Grand Prix kicked off at the Shoreline Materials Gravel pit in Little Egg Harbor New Jersey, 2008 was our second year using this location and Shoreline Materials graciously allowed AGP to hold events here so that we can raise money for both the Parkertown Fire Company and the Great Bay Rescue Squad.

The April 20th event did just that and when the day was over we raised over $7,000... So again a big thanks to all the Atlantic Grand Prix participants that showed their support to these two fine volunteer groups as well as all the families in Little Egg Harbor that support what Atlantic Grand Prix is doing.

Now on to the race... What a day with perfect temperatures in the mid 70s and a great course that was designed for both riders and spectators.

The day started with the PeeWee race which was won by young Chuck Rostien out of Barnegat NJ, Second overall went to Brandon Blanchet out of Towaco NJ and in Third Overall it was Julian Coffing out of Toms River NJ. The the peewee course consisted of the open areas of the gravel pit so that the parents were always able to keep a close eye on on the little ones. All and all the litter buggers had a great time and the parents were all smiles watching their kids enjoying themselves.

On the Youth Minicycle race we ran them for 1 hour and they ran the full 5.5 mile course which came back to the spectating area three times, so the parents always knew where their riders were during the race. Now on to the race... the first 10 riders were all able to get in 5 laps in the one hour of allotted time...1st overall went to Kyle Mcdonal out of Mays Landing NJ, 2nd overall went to Kenny Tenner out of Lumberton NJ and in third overall it was David Worden out of Vineland NJ . Track Conditions for the youth event were primo with plenty of roosting going on throughout the event.

The Youth Quad event was a 45 minute race and consisted of a shortened course that was a little over 3.5 miles in length. This course came back to the spectator section twice every lap so family and spectators could watch more of the race. Now on to the race after 4 laps Nichlos Major out of Toms River took 1st overall, 2nd overall went to Brian Thorsen out of Levittown PA and in 3rd overall it was Dennis Baker from Yardville NJ on a TRX90. Again all the kids had a great time and I'm sure they'll all be back for more of the same.

Now on to the adult race and what they had in store as far as the track went, the course was again just over 5.5 miles in length. The start put you into a natural terrain motocross section and then into a 1 mile woods section, from there it was back out on to the natural terrain motocross section with elevation changes as well as a couple of small jumps and then back into another woods section for 2 miles of some awesome trail, before you were again dropped back out into the natural terrain motocross section and then back into the woods for another 2 mile loop to the scoring barrels followed by another lap. Now on to the race... off the line it was Chris Rizzon that was first around to the scoring barrels, followed by Seth Hall out of East Hampton CT. 3rd through the barrels was James Kapiton, but after 8 laps it was James Kapiton out of Colts Neck NJ in 1, 2nd went to Chris Rizzon out of Hillsborough NJ and 3rd went to Joseph Ford out of Ceaderville NJ, again fun was had by all.

The ATV race was run on the same course as the Adult motorcycles race. 123 riders started and there were only three DNFs. the fastest riders all were able to get in 7 laps in the one hour and thirty minute allotted time. Overall finisher was Sean Neidlinger out of Flagtown NJ, in 2nd was Thomas Wright out of Tabernacle NJ and in 3rd overall Khris Buttler out of Vineland NJ.

Again we'd like to thanks the Parkertown Fire Company as well as the Great Bay Rescue Squad who the event was done as a fund raiser for. We'd also like to thank Little Egg Harbor Town Council who gave the Fire Company permission for these events and Shoreline Materials for graciously allowing their property to be used for fund raising purposes... Again thanks to all those for supporting the fire company and the rescue squad raise money so to better protect the community of Little Egg Harbor.
